14/06/08 - New Uist Office/Warehouse nearing completion

Construction began on a new purpose built facility to serve the Southern Isles back in November 2006. It was a large undertaking, with adverse site conditions to contend with. Before construction could begin on the site, as a result of ground made up of a combination of peat and solid rock, the site had to first be prepared. This involved blasting rock for over six weeks in order to create an area similar in size to a full sized football field! Various stages of the construction can be seen in the pictures below

Work commences on the project, digging out the peat (shown above, left). The drilling rig for the blasting shown at work (shown above, right)

The peaty site near the begining of the project (shown above, left). The site leveling and bunding works in progress, almost ready to begin the construction (shown above, right)

As of July 2008 the project should be complete and ready for occupation, providing a safe and pleasant working environment for the Uist based workforce on a user friendly site.
